They have shown 'unwavering' loyalty to the President who is now no longer concerned that a prime minister he selects would do a 'Leghari' on him; or in other words act against his explicit orders. PPP leaders have begun serious lobbying and many pressure groups have joined the bandwagon to back their preferred candidate in behind-the-scene traditional drawing room politics.
PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari could contest forthcoming elections, yet he is too young to become the prime minister as per the Constitution. However, analysts say Faryal Talpur remains a serious contender as she is extremely close to her brother and enjoys his complete trust.
Rumours and speculations are also rife if PPP came to power after elections with the support of its coalition partners and other allies, President Asif Ali Zardari may present himself for the powerful slot of premiership after contesting elections. However, the President's term will end in September while the new prime minister will certainly be sworn in before then which analysts say gives ample time to the President to hedge his bets.
